The Wind Blows

(after Nabila A. Rufai’s “The Candle of Hope”)

The wind blows in a circle
In the middle of a new day
As the candle of hope was lit
To light up our way
Hearts cried in the darkness

Our nights were accompanied with fear
The morning dew falls with sorrow
The roses and the petals close
With anger and confusion
Life wasn’t easy

There is no smoke without fire
We must claim our right
We cannot lose hope
Nobody prays for death

The sun of hope will rise
Our hero will emerge
The stars of democracy
Will shine upon him
And empty life will be history
The dawn of a new era
Will surely blow the trumpet
Of a joyful and promising life
